New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson was forced to exit Monday’s practice session early after losing his footing on a slick practice field. The second-year back slipped while making a cut during 11-on-11 rushing drills, resulting in an apparent lower-leg issue. Team athletic trainers briefly examined Henderson on the field before he walked into the training facility under his own power for further evaluation. While reporters on site noted the initial evaluation focused on his right leg and ankle area, the organization has not yet provided an official update regarding the full severity of the injury or his timeline for return.
The incident raised immediate concerns about the backfield’s depth with the regular-season opener just over two weeks away. Field conditions appeared to be a persistent issue throughout the day’s workout, as several other players also struggled to maintain traction on the wet grass surface. Patriots reporter Mark Daniels noted the environmental factor on social media, reporting, “Lots of players fell on the grass today”.
Henderson had just returned to practice on Monday, following an unannounced absence from Saturday night’s session. Selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, Henderson is coming off a productive rookie campaign in which he amassed 911 rushing yards and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Operating in a high-upside tandem alongside veteran starter Rhamondre Stevenson, Henderson remains a vital component of New England’s offensive game plan heading into the 2026 season.
